Product Information
2,4-Dichloro-6-methoxyquinoline is an antibacterial agent that selectively inhibits gram-negative bacteria. It binds to the ribosomal RNA of the bacterial cell and inhibits protein synthesis by stopping the formation of a ribosomal complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis. 2,4-Dichloro-6-methoxyquinoline has been shown to be effective against Gram negative organisms such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This drug also has a high degree of stability in air and light which makes it suitable for use in topical formulations. 2,4-Dichloro-6-methoxyquinoline is not active against Gram positive organisms such as Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes.
