3,5-Dibromo-1-methylpyrazin-2(1H)-one is an anti-influenza drug with a novel chemical structure. It has been shown to inhibit influenza virus replication in vitro and in vivo. 3,5-Dibromo-1-methylpyrazin-2(1H)-one binds to the ribonucleotide reductase enzyme, which is essential for viral RNA synthesis. The molecular weight of this compound is 683 g/mol. 3,5-Dibromo-1-methylpyrazin-2(1H)-one was found to be active against both influenza A and B viruses. This agent also exhibits activity against other RNA viruses, such as herpes simplex virus type 1 and 2 (HSV).
