2,2-Difluoro-5-aminobenzodioxole is a radiopharmaceutical that is used to image β-amyloid plaques in the brain of patients with Alzheimer's disease. This compound binds to β-amyloid and emits positrons, which are detected by a gamma camera. 2,2-Difluoro-5-aminobenzodioxole was synthesized from benzoic acid and alkylation with difluoromethane. This molecule has been shown to inhibit casein kinase I and II, which are involved in the phosphorylation of casein and the degradation of amyloid precursor protein (APP).
