1,4-Dimethylpyrazole is a methoxymethyl derivative that has shown to be bactericidal against geranyl-containing bacteria. It can be synthesized by reacting an anion with 1,4-dimethoxybenzene in the presence of acetonitrile and chloride. This reaction leads to the production of 1,4-dimethylpyrazole as a white solid. The product yields are dependent on the concentration of reactants and time of reaction. The reactive nature of this compound makes it difficult to synthesize at higher yields than other compounds in this series. This compound has been shown to induce apoptosis in hepatoma cells at low doses and death at high doses.
