It is a colorless solid that is soluble in organic solvents. 3,5-Dichloro-2-pyridinecarboxylic acid has been used as a catalyst for the conversion of benzonitrile to piperidine and as an intermediate in the synthesis of heterocycles such as anilines. This chemical also has the potential to be used in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase, which breaks down acetylcholine, and preventing its accumulation in the brain.
