Product Information

Name:
1,8-Diiodooctane
Synonyms:
  • Octamethylene diiodide
  • Octane, 1,8-diiodo-
Description:

1,8-Diiodooctane is a diphenyl ether that has been used as a solvent for the transfer of organic compounds. The transport pathways are not well understood, but it is thought to be due to hydrophobic interactions with the polymer film. Optical microscopy and light exposure were used to observe the optical properties of 1,8-diiodooctane. This molecule has two functional groups: one phenyl group and one iodide group. The morphology of 1,8-diiodooctane was observed using optical imaging techniques. The ultrafast dynamics of this molecule are in contrast to its low reactivity. 1,8-Diiodooctane is an oily compound with a high boiling point (138°C). It can be easily extracted from natural sources such as butyric acid.
