1,3-Dihydroimidazol-2-one (1,3 DIH) is a pharmaceutical drug that has been shown to inhibit the enzymatic activity of mitochondrial ATP synthase. This inhibition leads to increased levels of reactive oxygen species and an increase in oxidative stress. 1,3 DIH has also been shown to cause congestive heart failure in rats by inhibiting the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). In addition, 1,3 DIH has been shown to have some biological properties such as light emission and anti-inflammatory activities.
1,3 DIH has a number of tautomers including the enol form and the keto form. The keto form is more stable than the enol form because it has lower energy due to resonance stabilization.
