L-3,5-Dibromotyrosine is a reactive compound that is produced by the metabolism of tyrosine. It has been shown to have an effect on infectious diseases in vivo, and also has been found to be involved in autoimmune diseases and mitochondrial membrane potential. L-3,5-Dibromotyrosine has been shown to inhibit the production of eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in mice. This compound also inhibits the proliferation of k562 cells and human serum. L-3,5-Dibromotyrosine can also increase the risk of myocardial infarct by inhibiting the production of glycosylated proteins. The mechanism for this inhibition is believed to be due to its ability to inhibit glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK-3β).
