3,3-Diphenyl-L-alanine is a novel photophysical fluorescent probe that has been shown to be highly selective for copper. It has been used in vitro to study the transport of copper and its effects on biological systems. 3,3-Diphenyl-L-alanine binds to protein synthesis and cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with amino acid side chains. This compound also has high chemical stability and can be synthesized using an asymmetric synthesis process.
