Description:

1,2-O-Dihexadecyl-rac-glycerol is a fluorescent lipid that can be used as a DNA probe. It is synthesized by the enzymatic reaction of 1,2-O-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero 3-[N-(7-nitrobenzofurazan-3-yl)carbamoyl]propionate with 16:0 (1,2:1) in an organic solvent. The sequence of 1,2-O-dihexadecylracglycerol has been shown to be complementary to sequences in dna duplexes and it binds specifically to target dna. It has been used for fluorescence microscopy and for identifying specific dna sequences.
