6,7-Dimethoxy-3,4-Dihydro-2H-Isoquinolin-1-One is a natural compound that has been isolated from the roots of Syringa reticulata. It is a potent inhibitor of ACAT (3.5 μM) and has been used as a lead compound in the development of new drugs for the treatment of hyperlipidemia. 6,7-Dimethoxy-3,4-Dihydro-2H-Isoquinolin-1-One binds to ACAT with its pyridine ring through hydrogen bonding interactions. Its potency is reduced by matrix effects because it is lipophilic and has a low solubility in water. The molecule is also found to be an effective inhibitor of protopine. This compound can also be synthesized by reacting 2,6 dichloroacetophenone with pyrrolidine in the presence of N,N'-dimethyl
