Dihydro-2H-pyran-3(4H)-one is a synthetic compound that is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds. It has been shown to form the enolate and hydroxyl group when reacted with methoxy, biphenyl, or alkoxycarbonyl groups. Dihydro-2H-pyran-3(4H)-one has also been shown to be regiospecific and stereoselective for the formation of alkylthio group. This synthetic compound reacts with hydrogen peroxide and copper chromite to produce an alkylthio group.
