Product Information

Name:
5,6-Diacetoxyindole
Synonyms:
  • Indoxyl 5,6-diacetate
  • 1H-indole-5,6-diyl diacetate
Description:

5,6-Diacetoxyindole (DAI) is a synthetic compound that inhibits the production of melanin by binding to tyrosinase. It has been shown to inhibit the uptake of noradrenaline in synaptosomes and to inhibit the binding of noradrenaline to its receptors. DAI also inhibits the production of eumelanin and dihydroxyindole. The inhibition of these two molecules is due to an increase in the ratio between 5,6-dihydroxyindole and 5,6-diacetoxyindole. This leads to a decrease in the synthesis of dopa, which is required for the production of both products.
