5-(4,6-Dichloro-s-triazin-2-ylamino)fluorescein hydrochloride is a fluorescent probe for acid detection. It is used in hatcheries to monitor the pH of the water and in assays to detect acidity. 5-(4,6-Dichloro-s-triazin-2-ylamino)fluorescein hydrochloride has a high assay sensitivity and can be detected by a simple acid/base indicator. This compound has been shown to have significant activation at extracellular pH values between 6 and 7.5, with maximal fluorescence at pH 6.0. The molecular electrostatic potential of this compound also shows significant changes at pH 6.0, indicating that it binds well to acidic surfaces.
