Description

2,4-Dihydroxybenzoic acid hydrazide is an antibiotic that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the enzyme chorismate synthase and blocking the synthesis of folate. It has been shown to have bactericidal activity against Chlamydia, a sexually transmitted disease caused by this bacteria. 2,4-Dihydroxybenzoic acid hydrazide is a protonated form of 2,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid, which is a molecule found in humans and other mammals. This drug may be useful for treating herpes simplex virus and inhibiting the spread of HIV.
