1,2-Dihydro-2-oxo-6-phenyl-4-(trifluoromethyl)3-pyridinecarbonitrile is a triamide that has been studied by x-ray diffraction. The chlorine atom in the molecule can be substituted with a halogen, such as fluorine or azide. The hexamethylphosphoric acid ester of this compound can be hydrolyzed to produce the corresponding amine. This compound has been shown to react with thiocyanate and mercapto groups to form the corresponding chlorothiocyanato and mercaptothiazole compounds. 1,2-Dihydro-2-oxo-6-phenyl-4-(trifluoromethyl)3-pyridinecarbonitrile also reacts with xylene and ethylene oxide to form the corresponding nitrile derivative.
