4-(2,4-Dichlorophenoxy)phenol is a synthetic pesticide that inhibits the growth of microorganisms by binding to the regulatory site of enzymes. It has been shown to inhibit the phototransformation of Chlorella protothecoides and other organisms. 4-(2,4-Dichlorophenoxy)phenol binds to estrogen receptors and inhibiting the synthesis of estrogen. The compound also forms reaction products with oxygen in the presence of light, which may be responsible for its toxicity. 4-(2,4-Dichlorophenoxy)phenol is a biomimetic pesticide that can bind to triclosan, an antibacterial agent found in many household products such as soaps and toothpaste.
