Description:

Dimethylhydrazones are a class of heterocyclic compounds that are used in organic synthesis. Dimethylhydrazones can be synthesized by the reaction of an aldehyde or ketone with an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) and formaldehyde under basic conditions. The reaction is regioselectively controlled by the nature of the substituents on the aldehyde or ketone and their position on the heteroatom. The hydrazones can be hydrolyzed to form hydrazines, which can react with halides to form substituted hydrazines, or they can react with phosphorylating agents to produce phosphorylated products.
