Dirhenium decacarbonyl is a metal carbonyl that is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis, primarily for the production of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Dirhenium decacarbonyl has been shown to be a chelate ligand, which forms coordination complexes with metal ions. It can bind to human serum proteins and x-ray crystal structures have indicated that it has a similar structure to transfer reactions involving metal ions. Dirhenium decacarbonyl has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of polymerase chain reaction and group p2 polymerases.
