Dihydrogen hexahydroxyplatinate(IV) is a coordination complex that has the chemical formula [PtCl2(OH)(H2O)]. It is a metal aqua complex with a characteristic square planar geometry. The compound is prepared by the reaction of hydrogen hexahydroxyplatinate and an acid chloride, usually sulfate, borohydride, or triflate. It can also be made by the reaction of platinum metal with an alkali metal hydroxide and an acid chloride. Dihydrogen hexahydroxyplatinate(IV) may also be prepared by reacting platinum metal with hydrogen peroxide and an acid chloride. This compound has been shown to have high yields in reactions involving the synthesis of sulfates, borohydrides, triflates and chlorides. It can be used as a ligand in coordination chemistry because it forms complexes with many metals and other ligands, such as ammonia gas,
