2,3-Diamino-6-methoxypyridine is a synthetic chemical that is used in the production of pharmaceuticals. It is typically synthesized by condensation of 2-amino-6-chloro-3-nitropyridine with methanol and hydrochloric acid. The reaction process takes place at room temperature and under neutral conditions, typically for 24 hours. The yield of this chemical can be increased by recycling the solvents. This compound can also be used to synthesize tenatoprazole, which is an antiulcer drug that inhibits gastric acid secretion.
2,3-Diamino-6-methoxypyridine is also used as a precursor to produce other chemicals such as benzaldehyde and 1,2,4,5 tetrahydrobenzothiophene.
