Description:
1,5-Dimethyl-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid (DMPCA) is a bidentate ligand that can be used to bind heterocyclic amines, such as 2-amino-1-methyl-6-(4'-nitrosobutyl)-pyrimidine (NNK), and inhibit the formation of reactive oxygen species. DMPCA has been shown to increase the long duration of action of drugs in vivo, which may be due to its ability to prevent the uptake and metabolism of drugs. DMPCA also inhibits cardiac hypertrophy induced by ischemia reperfusion injury. It has been shown that DMPCA blocks piperazine's effect on the heart at high doses, but not at low doses. This agent has also been shown to inhibit cardiac infarction caused by occlusion of coronary artery in an in vivo model.
