Description:

Diphenyliodonium hexafluorophosphate is an ionic, cationic polymerization initiator that is soluble in organic solvents. It can be used to prepare polymers with a wide range of properties and functions. The thermal expansion coefficient of a polymer prepared with this initiator is dependent on the degree of crosslinking, as well as on the concentration and nature of the monomer. Diphenyliodonium hexafluorophosphate has been shown to react with hydrogen fluoride, yielding alkyl iodides and phenyl fluorides. Kinetic data for this reaction are available. This compound also reacts efficiently with a variety of nucleophiles, including amines and alcohols, to form polymeric products containing nitrogen atoms. This polymerization initiates reactions via transfer reactions between radicals generated by photolysis or radiation from UV or gamma sources. Hydroxyl groups act as reactive sites for these reactions.
