Description:

Tert-dodecylmercaptan (TMD) belongs to the class of aromatic hydrocarbons and is a cross-linking agent. It is used in the synthesis of polymers, such as ethylene diamine, calcium carbonate, and sodium sulfide. TMD is also used as a surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) agent. The SERS effect arises from the strong Raman scattering from the electrons in its conjugated system. This reaction solution can be used to detect chloride ions in water samples or to measure pH levels using optical properties. TMD has been shown to be an efficient polymerization initiator for the synthesis of poly(ethylene glycol)s with diamine tetraacetic acid (DTTA).
