Dimethyl 3-phenylisothiazole-4,5-dicarboxylate is an organic compound with the chemical formula C7H6N2O3. It is a white solid that can be obtained by heating benzonitrile and cyanoformate in the presence of dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate. Dimethyl 3-phenylisothiazole-4,5-dicarboxylate can also be synthesized by cycloaddition of ethyl propiolate with cyclopentadiene in the presence of a base. The yield of this reaction is high, reaching up to 98%.
The compound has been used as a reagent for the synthesis of fumarate and sulfide. It has also been used in 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions to form norbornadiene derivatives.
