Dimethylthiophosphinoyl Chloride is a trifluoroacetic acid derivative that has been used as a cross-linking agent in the preparation of biomaterials. It is used in the production of glycosidic bonds, where it reacts with an electrophilic carbonyl group to form a covalent bond. This is typically achieved through chromatographic methods, although it can also be prepared by reacting chloroacetyl chloride with dimethyl sulfoxide and sodium methylate. Dimethylthiophosphinoyl Chloride has shown to have vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) activity and is able to increase intracellular calcium concentrations. It also increases cell nuclei size and induces DNA fragmentation, which may be due to its ability to induce hydroxyl radicals.
