5,5-Dibromomeldrum's acid is a chemical reagent that is used in reductive coupling reactions. It can be used to synthesize β-unsaturated ketones from aldehydes and alkynes. The product of the reaction is usually solvated with a solvent such as carbon tetrachloride or chloroform, which are removed by filtration after the reaction has finished. 5,5-Dibromomeldrum's acid can also be used to synthesize halides and organic solvents such as diethyl ether.
