It is a colorless liquid and has a boiling point of approximately 100 degrees Celsius. 1,2-Dichlorotetramethyldisilane can be used for the structural analysis of organic compounds in the nmr spectra. The compound is also used to determine bond cleavage sites in polyatomic molecules. 1,2-Dichlorotetramethyldisilane has been shown to be active against Covid-19 pandemic and crystallography has been used to identify its x-ray crystal structures.
