Name:
Dimethyl 1,3-Benzodithiol-2-ylphosphonate
Synonyms:
  • 1,3-Benzodithiol-2-ylphosphonic Acid Dimethyl Ester2-Dimethoxyphosphinyl-1,3-benzodithiole
Description:

Dimethyl 1,3-benzodithiol-2-ylphosphonate is a cyclic phosphonate with the chemical formula CH(O)P(O)(CH)CO. It can be synthesized from the reaction of butyllithium and dimethoxybenzene or from acetonitrile and ferrocene. Dimethyl 1,3-benzodithiol-2-ylphosphonate reacts with trialkyl phosphite in an electrophilic substitution reaction to form a cyclic phosphite ester. This compound has been used to synthesize heterocycles such as 2-substituted 3,4,5-trisubstituted benzofurans and 3,4,5-trisubstituted benzothiophenes. The carbonyl group of this compound has been shown to undergo a Diels-Alder reaction with hexafluorobenzene to produce
