2,6-Dimethylphenyl isothiocyanate (DMIT) is a plant-derived compound that has been used as an anti-inflammatory drug. DMIT inhibits the production of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and other inflammatory mediators. It also has a pharmacophore similar to that of the NSAIDs, which targets primary amines and their receptors. DMIT's anti-inflammatory activity has been shown in animal models of inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. This drug may have potential for treating inflammatory bowel disease and other autoimmune diseases.
