3,5-Dibenzyloxybenzyl bromide is a dendron that has been used to synthesize chiral amides with yields of up to 96%. 3,5-Dibenzyloxybenzyl bromide can also be used to produce polyethers and supramolecular ligands. The lability of the benzyl group allows for the synthesis of macrocyclic compounds from this compound. This synthetic strategy can be applied to other types of macrocycles as well, such as hydrogen bonded or conformational cyclizations. 3,5-Dibenzyloxybenzyl bromide has been shown to have an expansion effect on cotton and a singlet effect in its ground state.
