Diethyl Azoxybenzene-4,4'-dicarboxylate (DABD) is a molecule that undergoes phase transitions between mesomorphic and thermotropic phases. This transition is reversible and can be induced by heating or cooling the material. The mesomorphic form is characterized by a low density, high compressibility, and low velocity. It also has an adiabatic transition temperature of about 44°C. The thermotropic form has a higher density than the mesomorphic form, but lower compressibility and velocity. When DABD is heated to about 44°C, it transforms into the thermotropic phase.
