Product Information
- Thiophene, 2,5-dibromo-3-hexyl-
2,5-Dibromo-3-hexylthiophene is an organosulfur compound that reacts with aryl halides in the presence of copper to form arylthioethers in high yields. The reaction mechanism involves oxidative addition of the thiophene ring to give the corresponding radical anion. This radical anion then undergoes reductive elimination to generate the desired product and copper(II) sulfide. 2,5-Dibromo-3-hexylthiophene has been shown to inhibit growth of human MCF7 breast cancer cells and induce apoptosis by inhibiting protein synthesis. The optimal reaction conditions are at room temperature with a reaction time of 10 minutes.
