3,3'-Dihexyl-2,2'-bithiophene is a derivative of mesitylene that exhibits fluorescence properties. It is soluble in many solvents and has a crystalline structure. 3,3'-Dihexyl-2,2'-bithiophene has been shown to exhibit quantum efficiency with the chlorination of mesitylene. This compound emits two peaks of fluorescence when exposed to chlorine gas at room temperature in liquid phase and at low pressure. The first peak appears at around 350 nm and the second peak appears at around 450 nm. 3,3'-Dihexyl-2,2'-bithiophene is bimodal with one peak appearing as a shift and the other appearing as a fluorescent emission.
