3,6-Dibromo-9-phenylcarbazole is a potent inhibitor of the photoreaction of acidified 3,6-dibromo-9-phenylcarbazole with aminonitriles. The inhibition is due to the presence of electron withdrawing groups at positions 2 and 6 on the phenyl ring. This reaction is catalysed by light in the visible region (400-700 nm). Reaction time is an important factor for this reaction. The kinetics are described by a second order kinetic equation. A number of simulations have been conducted to understand the mechanism of this reaction. This study has also revealed that adsorption isotherms can be used to determine the optimal conditions for this reaction.
