3,6-Dibromo-9-ethylcarbazole (3,6-DiBC) is a dibrominated carbazole derivative that has been used in the fabrication of transistors. 3,6-DiBC crystals are herringbone and have been shown to be more stable than other carbazole derivatives. The crystal structure of 3,6-DiBC has been determined by X-ray crystallography. This compound features dimers and crystallographic symmetry which can be seen in the nmr spectra. The alkylation reaction between 3,6-DiBC and phenylmagnesium bromide produces a ring system with a skeleton that consists of six atoms. Spectroscopic studies have revealed that the dye sensitized solar cells use 3,6-DiBC as a dye. Suzuki coupling reactions between 3,6-DiBC and anilines produce dihedral interactions and yield the desired products in high yields.
