1,5-Dibromoanthracene is an aromatic hydrocarbon that has been shown to activate at low temperatures. It is bifunctional, meaning that it can react with a nucleophile and a boron compound to form a new molecule. This product has been used in the synthesis of 1,1'-dibromo-2,2'-dichloroethene as well as other organic compounds. The reaction kinetics of 1,5-Dibromoanthracene with boronic acids have been studied extensively. The activation energy for this process was found to be 49 kcal/mol (209 kJ/mol). Thermodynamic data has also been determined for this process.
