Product Information
1,8-Diiodoanthracene is a tetradentate ligand that binds to metal ions. It can be synthesized from anthracene and iodine in the presence of boronic acids. The 1,8-diiodoanthracene skeleton has directional properties and can be substituted with various groups. The compound is used for the preparation of coordination compounds such as those containing copper(II) or nickel(II). 1,8-Diiodoanthracene is also used for the UV irradiation of thianthrene crystals. This process provides crystallographic data and structural information about the nonpolar solvents used in organic chemistry. 1,8-Diiodoanthracene undergoes uv irradiation when exposed to radiation at wavelengths between 210 nm and 400 nm with a wavelength peak around 240 nm. This irradiation causes a change in the molecular structure resulting in an increase in electron density at carbon atoms that are not substituted by iodines
