2,3-Dihydro-2-spiro-7'-[8'-imino-7',8'-dihydronaphthalen-1'-amine]perimidine (Peri) is a molecule that has been found to be effective in treating prostate cancer cells. It was first synthesized by the reduction of 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran with hydrochloric acid and ammonia. The structure of this molecule is similar to that of 7,8-dihydronaphthalene. Peri can be used as a diagnostic agent for prostate cancer and is more effective in treating prostate cancer than other anti-cancer drugs. Peri binds to DNA and inhibits the synthesis of RNA, which prevents the production of proteins vital for cell division. This drug also has been shown to have a high specificity for cancer cells compared to healthy cells.
