Disodium Phthalocyanine is a coordination complex that has been studied extensively for its optical properties. The coordination complex is activated when irradiated with light of an appropriate wavelength, and the activated molecule then reacts with oxygen to produce a redox reaction product. Disodium Phthalocyanine is a molecule composed of alternating single and double nitrogen atoms that are bonded together in a chain-like structure. It can be synthesized by combining carbon tetrachloride, copper sulfate, and ammonia in the presence of sodium or potassium salts at a high pressure. The resulting product is then heated to remove the sodium or potassium salt, followed by purification by recrystallization.
The optical properties of Disodium Phthalocyanine depend on its molecular structure, which is determined by the number of nitrogen atoms present in the molecule. The more nitrogen atoms present in the molecule, the higher the energy required for activation. This means that it will take more time for radiation to activate
