4,4'-Dinitrobiphenyl is an organic compound that is a diphenyl ether. It has been used as a chemical intermediate in the production of dyes and other chemicals. 4,4'-Dinitrobiphenyl is a colorless liquid with a faint smell and a neutral pH. It reacts with water to form sodium hydroxide, which can react with biphenyl to produce sodium sulfide and potassium dichromate. This chemical can also be used to synthesize nitrobenzene by reacting it with nitric acid in the presence of sodium carbonate under low-energy conditions. 4,4'-Dinitrobiphenyl can also be used to produce biphenyltetracarboxylic acid by reacting it with sulfuric acid at high temperatures.
