Product Information

- Thiophene, 2,5-dichloro-3-methyl-
- 2,5-Dichloro-3-methylthiophene
2,5-Dichloro-3-methylthiophene is an acyclic, aromatic heterocycle that has a five-membered ring. It is hydrophobic and can be used as a solvent for organic reactions. The chloride atom on the central carbon in this compound is electron withdrawing and it is believed to have a stabilizing effect on the molecule. When 2,5-dichloro-3-methylthiophene reacts with another molecule of 2,5-dichloro-3-methylthiophene or with a molecule containing an electronegative atom (e.g., oxygen), it undergoes dehydration to form 1,4,2,6 tetrahydropyridine. This reaction produces two molecules of water as byproducts.
2,5 dichloro 3 methyl thiophene hydrolyzes easily in acidic conditions to produce hydrogen chloride gas and 1 4 2 6 tetrahydropyridine hydrochlor
