2,5-Dibromoselenophene is an unsymmetrical compound that has two bromine atoms in the 5-position and one bromine atom in the 2-position. The general structure of 2,5-dibromoselenophene can be described as a stepwise reaction between two molecules of selenium dioxide. This compound has been studied for its possible use as an anthelmintic drug. 2,5-Dibromoselenophene has shown some effectiveness against nematodes and may have potential to control the spread of parasitic infections in humans. It is not toxic to mammalian cells at concentrations up to 100 µg/mL but does show estrogen receptor modulator activity.
