It is a feedstock for the production of pyrrole, which is used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, dyes, and rubber chemicals. 3,6-Dimethyl-2-pyridinamine can also be converted to fatty acids and carboxylic acids by hydrolysis with sulfuric acid. This compound has been shown to be useful as a ligand for palladium complexes. 3,6-Dimethyl-2-pyridinamine has been investigated as a potential biodiesel feedstock because it yields high levels of carboxylic acids.
