Description:
Diethyl phenylphosphonite is a labile, reactive chemical that has been used in coordination chemistry and as an organic solvent. It is a colorless liquid that has a low boiling point. Diethyl phenylphosphonite can be used to synthesize phosphite esters, which are compounds that have the formula OP(OR)3, where R is a hydrocarbon group. The compound is also used in the production of polymers, such as polyvinyl chloride and polyethylene terephthalate. Diethyl phenylphosphonite reacts with acid solutions or halides to produce phosphorous acid or chloride-containing reaction products. This chemical also undergoes structural changes when exposed to ultraviolet light, making it unsuitable for long-term storage.
