Description

2,5-Dimethoxy benzyl chloride (DBMC) is a potent and selective endothelin receptor antagonist. It has been shown to inhibit the binding of endothelin to its receptor and therefore inhibits the effects of this hormone. This drug binds to the endothelin receptor on vascular smooth muscle cells in an irreversible manner. It has also been shown to have a potent inhibitory effect on endothelin-induced contraction of isolated rat aorta. 2,5-Dimethoxy benzyl chloride is a non-selective antagonist for all three known subtypes of the endothelin receptor. DBMC is currently being developed as an antihypertensive agent.
