3,4-Dimethoxybenzonitrile is a chemical compound with the formula CH(OCOCH)CO. It is a white solid that can be synthesized by reacting aniline and nitroethane in the presence of hydrochloric acid. 3,4-Dimethoxybenzonitrile has been shown to have neuroprotective properties and can be used to treat strokes and other neurological disorders. 3,4-Dimethoxybenzonitrile has also been shown to inhibit cell growth in culture at concentrations as low as 0.1 mM, which may be due to its ability to bind DNA via electron donation from the methoxy group.
