Product Information

Name:
trans-3,5-Difluorocinnamic acid
Synonyms:
  • (2E)-3-(3,5-difluorophenyl)prop-2-enoic acid
  • (2E)-3-(3,5-difluorophenyl)prop-2-enoate
Description:

Trans-3,5-difluorocinnamic acid is a carboxylate that is used in the synthesis of coumarin derivatives. It can be synthesized by a monomerization reaction between 3,5-difluoroacrylic acid and benzaldehyde. The fluorine atom in trans-3,5-difluorocinnamic acid gives it its analytical properties. Trans-3,5-difluorocinnamic acid is also useful as an intermediate for the synthesis of other organic compounds such as polymers and pharmaceuticals. It has been shown to have a variety of uses in analytical methods including electrochemical methods, ultraviolet absorption, and organic acids. Trans-3,5-Difluorocinnamic acid can be used to introduce fluoro groups into polymers and photocurrents (electrons) into monomers.
