Description:

3,5-Dibromoanisole is a functional group that is an organic compound with the chemical formula C6H4Br2O. It is a reactive chemical that can be used as a ligand in coordination chemistry, and as a crosslinker in macromolecular preparations. 3,5-Dibromoanisole reacts rapidly with pyridine-N-oxide to form 2-pyridinethione. It is also bioactive molecule that has been shown to cause interactions with other molecules such as proteins and DNA. 3,5-Dibromoanisole is used for sample preparation before analysis by means of fluorescence spectroscopy or xylene solubility tests. The functional theory of this molecule is based on its ability to react with the oxygen in water at room temperature, leading to formation of the hydroxyl radical HO•.
