The compound inhibits tyrosine phosphatases and reverses the effect of insulin resistance in muscle cells by inhibiting the phosphatase enzymes that catalyze the removal of phosphate groups from tyrosine residues. 2,3-Dibromo-4,5-dihydroxybenzaldehyde has been studied as a dietary agent for reversing insulin resistance.
